Meet Jack and Joanne

Who are these crazy kids that are going to criss-cross the United States spreading Kindness in all 48 contiguous states??

They are actually relatives, on my husband’s side, but I would like to inherit their sense of adventure!

Jack and Joanne Molan hail from Oregon, currently living in Bend. Jack was a deep sea fishing boat captain for 30 years in the Bering Sea, even captaining a boat featured on Deadliest Catch.  Now he’s writing and speaking about his time on the high seas. So this tour is launching his next phase of life.

I was drawn to the Bering Sea as a young man. The risks, the money, and the freedom all fired me up!

Could I make it? Would I die? I had to find out!

My maiden voyage was in 1980, and I became a Captain in 1987. My 30 years running a 123’ vessel in all seasons gave me a lifetime of stories and adventures. Photography and speaking grew from a natural desire to share my experiences. Few people ever see what I do. It was in this time that my love for photography, writing and speaking developed.  In the face of brutal Bering Sea winters, I watched fellow Captains struggle with tremendous pressures from storms, intense competition, separation from families, sleep deprivation, accidents, loss, and poor health. Some succeeded, but many flamed out, all on the same ocean in similar boats. Why? What made the difference? This is where the inspiration for my writing and speaking comes from.

Outside is where you will find me, whether doing an adventure, warming up to a fire with friends or family, or listening to music.  Asian food tops my list, as does a good deal. I’m always looking to experience something out of the ordinary, something colorful, a secret spot.  My travels have taken me to 40 countries and a 10 year residency in Mexico.

Family is my top priority, as well as my spirituality, my physical well-being and connection with others.  I have been happily married for 36 years, have three grown kids and two beautiful grandkids. I simply love life!
